The drawing
As with any work of art, the first step in creating a piece of jewelry is the design. The initial phase involves the goldsmith tracing the design on paper.

The Fusion Tree
The wax tree is placed in a cylinder where it rests, surrounded by liquid plaster. Once the plaster has solidified, the cylinder is inverted in a furnace that melts the wax, leaving a negative cavity with the shape of the models that will be created.
Fusion
The metal is melted and then poured into a plaster mold. This is the age-old lost-wax casting technique used by the Etruscans. Once the molten metal has cooled, the plaster is immersed in water and broken to reveal the raw cast.
Setting
This is the stage where the setter secures the stones to the jewel to maximize their display. A fundamental rule is that the metal secures the stone at its girdle (the widest part of the stone) to ensure absolute stability.
